AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER AGAINST THE GIANT MICROSOFT

A Russian Elementary School Teacher, Alexander Ponosov, challenges Microsoft for its software domination. The case came up when he was taken into trial for his installing pirated Microsoft software in his school computers. For his act, he is dubbed a hero and earning great fame. He gets support not only from the Russians but also from President Vladimir Putin and the former, Michael Gorbachev.

Of his case with the court, Ponosov opposes the software giant and has declared a lobbying group for downing Russia’s dependency on the software from Microsoft and promoting the use of free open-source software. Ponosov who lives in a remote village in Perm, Ural heights stated that the giant software domination might threat national security of Russia. “Our dependency on western product brings about a serious risk that will result in our loss of independence” said he. The Russian press analogizes the matter as a battle between David against Goliath.

In line with what Ponosov is doing, online practitioners are now campaigning the use of free open-source software. The practice benefits both the developers and the users. Besides, it enables a wider community to access to the computer technology that at the later stage accelerates equality of development. The developers earn income from services of training, consultation, maintenance or upgrading.
